March 24 and March 31 FCTFWC Walks!
Just another walk schedule reminder - we will attend the Happy Wanderers’ walk in Palatka this coming Saturday (info and directions below) March 24. The Gator Landing in E. Palatka is a great place for lunch afterwards. Car pooling on the East side of the river will be from the parking lot between the Bank of America and Food Lion on the Southeast corner of Route 13 and Racetrack Road at 8 AM. Please plan to arrive at 7:45 AM. Contact Gordon or Ellie Lindblom if you will be there. If someone would like to coordinate a car pool from the West side of the St. Johns River, please send Ellie the details for broadcasting at the above email address.
Our Ft. Clinch group walk will begin at 8:45 AM at the State Park entrance on March 31. (Info and directions below).

Trail: Enjoy the historic sites and some 32 murals depicting the history of Palatka as you walk along sidewalks and bike trails. The Ravine State Gardens portion of the trail is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs since it is hilly and on dirt paths. This walk is eligible for AVA Special Programs: AVA Cemeteries, Riverwalk America, Railroad Heritage, American Authors & Literary Landmarks, and U.S. President’s; FVA Putnam County.
Time: Register any time between 9:00 & 11:00 a.m.; plan so you can finish by 2:00 p.m.
Start address: Quality Inns and Suites, 201 N. 1st Street, Palatka
Distance: 10K (6 miles). A shorter 5K trail will be available.
Cost: $3 for all walkers.
Directions:
From the Daytona Beach area, take I-95N to exit 284 onto SR 100-W toward Bunnell/Palatka. Left on Moody/Fl-100 for 4.7 mi., right on N. State US-1 for .4 mi., slight right on W SR-100/FK-20 for 23.7 mi. straight on US 17N.FL 100W for 5.1 mi., right on N 1st St. to Quality Inn and Suites.

Fort Clinch Walk March 31, 2007
Distance and Trail Rating: 5K & 10K 1+
Start Point Address / Driving Directions:
(Ranger Station) 2601 Atlantic Ave., Fernandina Beach, FL 32034 904-277-7274. From I-95 take exit 373 heading east onto SR 200/A1A into Fernandina Beach. At Centre St/Atlantic Ave, turn right onto Atlantic Ave. Fort Clinch is on the left within 2 miles. Register at the front gate office. You will then drive to the start point.
Event Description: Open daily 8 AM until sunset. There is a park entrance fee. The trail is rated 1+ and is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. Carry water and insect repellant. The walk includes a stroll on the beach providing views of Cumberland Island, GA as you approach the fort dating back to 1847. At the gift shop a $3 entrance fee will allow you to step back into time as you witness Living Union Historians reenacting life in 1864. The event qualifies for the Lighthouses USA, Civil War Battlefield, USA State Parks and RiverWalk America walking programs. A nature trail winds through a coastal hammock. No pets allowed on the beach.
