Celebrate Black History Month in Virginia
Black History Month in Virginia is celebrated with special tours of historic sites, in concert, drama, film, soul food and exciting events. For example, the Buffalo Riders of Hampton Roads honors the memory of the Civil War’s Buffalo Soldiers on a 6-mile ride through Portsmouth. The Virginia War Museum salutes the Tuskegee Airmen of WWII and Opera Roanoke presents a tribute concert to Marian Anderson. Special tours highlighting African-American influence are planned at Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg, the National D-Day Memorial, Monticello and other historic sites during the month of February.

Virginia Battle Reenactments 2006
Did you know that more major battles during the Civil War took place in Virginia — the Capital of the Confederacy — than in any other state? Reenactment troops invite you to witness upcoming battles, ask questions and participate in camp life of the Civil War soldiers and their families. This year also marks the 225th anniversary of the Siege of Yorktown and the battle that ended the Revolutionary War at the very site where it all happened in Virginia!

Women’s Ski Seminar at Wintergreen Resort
Did you know that many women have been taught the same way to ski as men? Women are not built like men with the same muscle mass, bone length or center of gravity. Based on the award-winning book Women Ski by Claudia Carbone, Wintergreen’s two-day Women’s Ski Seminar teaches how to ski like a woman and enjoy it. This seminar is for women who already know the basics of skiing.
